I stopped putting up a tree when the kids moved out.

When they were little, even though I enjoyed having a decorated house for the Holidays, I dreaded taking out that box of ornaments and tangled lights. And then there was the wreath on the front door that would stay up until February.

One year, one of my neighbours came over and told me that it was bad luck to leave it up that long.

I never put it up again after that.

Once we got started, I enjoyed decorating the house. …

The TikTok social media platform now has 500 million users who are desperate for fun and exciting content, and this is a massive opportunity for you to promote your business.

The way I see it, Tik Tok is at the same stage that platforms like Facebook and Instagram were at 8 years ago. Before moving to a “pay to play” model, it was much easier to use those platforms to get the necessary traffic to your business.

To be successful with TikTok marketing you need to know how the platform works and how the users interact with each other.

TikTok…

And by ‘non black city’ I mean that there are fewer black people in it than any other race.

There’s a running commentary in the community where I live, about how few black people there are in this city.

It’s not imagination. There are very few black people where I live.

Especially black women.

I joke with friends about how I’m one of maybe 5 black women in the city, and we don’t know each other.

I live in Vancouver, BC (Canada). And everyone knows (everyone who lives here anyway) that there are far fewer black people in this province…

Am I the only square who hates one of the most popular social media vehicles on the planet?

And it’s not just Instagram. It’s social media in general.

I deactivated, and deleted my Facebook account about 5 years ago. It was meant to be a 30 day break, but after the 30 days, I just didn’t go back.

Instagram is probably next.

It used to be this cool app where you could go to look at beautiful pictures of fabulous vacation spots and cool interior design projects, as well as keeping up with photos of friends and loved ones.

Now…

The rebuild is crucial to your survival.

When your separation or divorce process starts, you’re likely going to find that your self-esteem is shot.

Rebuilding that self-esteem is crucial to successfully move on after a breakup or divorce.

Moving on successfully means that you’re okay not being in a relationship with your ex anymore. It may take months or even years to get there, but it’s going to take some effort regardless.

The shock of a divorce can be devastating. You need to learn how to focus on positive things and learn how to appreciate what you have. …

It really did feel like magic.

I’ve been blogging and building blogs and websites since 2003, and I’m a card-carrying domain-a-holic. Which means that I own about 50 to 75 domains. I also own about 7 or 8 blogs and ecommerce websites.

It wasn’t until I bought one particular domain that it all hit me.

I had purchased this domain (whose name I shall not mention to protect the identity of the buyer), and was planning on starting a marketing company for one specific type of business.

I started building the site, but put it on hold temporarily. So I…

Who Else is Gaining Weight During Quarantine?

I don’t know about you, but the scale has NOT been kind to me in this quarantine.

Who else has gained weight since this pandemic started?

A show of hands?

Full transparency (and no shame whatsoever), I’ve manage to put on a tidy 22 lbs. since this pandemic started.

That’s 22 lbs. in 8 months.

I’ll also tell you (again, no shame), that I’ve purchased a yoga mat and weights, and both have a fine film of dust on them from underuse.

With the exception of vacuuming under them, I haven’t touched them…

I’m single. And I have been for about 6 years.

I know more than a few women who are offended by the question “How are YOU single?”

But it doesn’t offend me. Mostly because to me, it’s not an offensive question.

Also because I’ve met people for whom I’ve had that same thought, and I don’t mean anything derogatory by it.

I’ve been divorced since 2001, and since then, I’ve been in a few relationships. Most of them, longer term, like…more than a couple of years.

My longest outside-of-marriage relationship was 3 years. …

Do You Feel Guilty When You Sleep In?

Even during this crazy pandemic, when there’s not a whole lot to do while we’re quarantined, I feel guilty when I sleep in. Even in these, the strangest of circumstances, I still feel like a slug when I sleep late.

I write and build e-commerce websites for a living, so it’s not like I have to leave the house to get to an office every morning, even outside of a global pandemic.

But lately even when I hit the hay at midnight (which is early for me, but I’ve always been a…

We got him at 8 weeks old. He was the cutest thing on four legs.

Photo by Cheryl Cox on Unsplash

The kids adored him, and at the time, we had two girls. He was my third child.

He was super protective of the kids. When they went up the street to play at the neighbors house, he would sit on the neighbor’s front step until the kids were ready to come home. No matter what treat I offered him, he refused to budge.

When we went to bed, he made the rounds of each child’s bedroom, making sure everyone was okay. …
